FAQ

Honest answers to the most common questions about what Dive Kit is, how it stores your data, and what it can and cannot do.

Is Dive Kit a dive computer?

No. Dive Kit is a planning and reference tool you use on the surface. It does not measure depth, time, or your tissue loading during a dive, and it gives you no real-time guidance in the water. A dive computer does that job, and Dive Kit does not replace one. See Limits and disclaimers.

Can I use it underwater?

No. Dive Kit is built for the surface: planning before you splash, logging after you surface, and checking references on the boat. It is not waterproof guidance and it is not meant to be looked at on a descent. If you want a plan in the water, export it to a printable slate from the Deco Planner.

Does it work offline?

Yes for the core tools. The calculators and your certifications all run on your device and work with no connection. Share links and QR codes work offline too: the whole plan rides inside the link, so opening one in Dive Kit rebuilds it on your device with no connection. A couple of things do need the internet: in-app purchases and restoring a subscription. (Viewing a share link in a web browser also needs a connection, because the website renders that page.) See Offline use.

Why is the Deco Planner locked?

The Deco Planner is the one paid feature in Dive Kit. It is part of Dive Kit Pro, available as a monthly subscription (with a free trial) or a one-time lifetime purchase. Without Pro you can still open a plan a buddy shared with you and read every output, but you cannot create or edit a plan. See Subscription.

Can I switch between metric and imperial?

Yes. You pick metric or imperial during onboarding and can change it any time in Settings. Each unit (pressure, depth, temperature, volume, weight) can be set independently. One exception: oxygen partial pressure (PPO₂) and closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) setpoints are always shown in bar, the standard unit for partial pressure. See Units and settings.

How accurate is the Deco Planner?

It runs the Bühlmann ZH-L16C algorithm with gradient factors, and its output is cross-checked against MultiDeco. It is still a model, which means it is an approximation, not a measurement of your body. Read How Dive Kit compares to MultiDeco for what is checked and where the model’s limits are.

Where is my data stored? Is it backed up?

Everything you create stays on your device. Settings and plans are kept in local storage; your certifications live in a local database on the phone. There is no cloud account and no automatic backup. If you delete the app or lose the phone, that data is gone. Use your device’s own backup (iCloud, Google) to protect it.

How do I share a plan?

From the Deco Planner, share a plan as a link or QR code. The link encodes the whole plan, so a buddy who opens it in Dive Kit gets the exact plan recalculated on their device, and opening it on the web shows the same stop table without needing a deco engine. A buddy without Dive Kit Pro can still open the link and read every output, but importing, editing, or re-sharing it needs Pro. You can also export the schedule as a printable A6 PDF, a PNG, or plain text for an underwater slate. See Share links.

How do I reorder the tools on the Plan screen?

Open the menu in the Plan screen header and choose Reorder Tools. The grid switches to drag-and-drop mode: press and hold a tool, drag it to where you want it, and the rest shift to make room. Tap the checkmark in the header to save the new order. If you want to undo your changes, tap Reset to Default to put the grid back the way it shipped.

How do I change the app’s language?

Go to Settings, open Appearance, and use the Language toggle. Dive Kit ships in six languages: English, Türkçe, Deutsch, Svenska, Русский, and Polski. Leave it on System to follow your phone’s language, or pick one to override it. The change applies straight away.

What does the Paper Texture toggle do and should I turn it off?

Paper Texture adds a subtle paper grain to the background for a more tactile look. It is on by default. Turn it off in Settings under Appearance if you want maximum contrast, for example when you are reading the screen in glaring sun on the boat. It is purely visual and does not change any calculation.

How do I turn off analytics? Is my usage tracked?

Dive Kit collects anonymous usage data to see which features get used and where to improve. There is no personal data and no dive content in it. You can opt out any time: go to Settings, open Privacy & Legal, and turn off the Analytics toggle. With it off, nothing is sent.

A link made in a newer version of Dive Kit can’t be rebuilt in an older install, so the app shows an “App Update Required” screen. Update Dive Kit and open the link again, or tap Open in Browser to read the same stop table on the web. See Common problems for the full fix.

How do I reset the app or clear all my data?

Dive Kit has no in-app “reset everything” button. To wipe a single item, delete that saved plan or certification from its own screen. To remove everything, delete and reinstall the app, which clears all on-device data (it is not backed up to the cloud). See Common problems for the step-by-step.
