Know Exactly How Much Gas You Need Before You Gear Up

Enter your SAC rate, planned depth, bottom time, and tank size. DiveKit calculates total gas consumption for each segment of the dive, tracks remaining gas, and warns you when reserves fall below rule-of-thirds or rule-of-sixths thresholds.

What Gas Planner Does

How DiveKit tracks gas consumption across your entire dive profile.

The Gas Planner calculates how much breathing gas you need for a dive, segment by segment. Define your surface air consumption (SAC) rate, plan one or more depth/time segments, and the tool computes total gas consumption at each depth using the ambient pressure ratio. It tracks cumulative gas usage through the entire profile and shows exactly how much remains in your cylinders at every step.

The planner supports multiple reserve strategies: rule of thirds (recommended for overhead environments), rule of sixths, minimum reserve pressure, and custom thresholds. It flags any segment where gas supply drops below your chosen reserve level, so you can adjust the plan before you're underwater.

Ideal for planning stage bottle requirements on technical dives, verifying recreational dives won't exceed your air supply, or comparing gas consumption across different tank sizes and SAC rates.

  • Multi-segment gas consumption tracking
  • Real-time remaining gas at every step of the profile
  • Reserve rule warnings — rule of thirds, sixths, or custom
  • Support for multiple tank sizes and configurations
  • SAC rate–based calculations using ambient pressure ratio
  • Compare different dive profiles side by side
  • Works 100% offline — plan on the boat or at the dive site

Gas Consumption at Depth

Gas consumption increases linearly with ambient pressure. At 10m (2 ATA), you breathe twice as fast as at the surface; at 30m (4 ATA), four times as fast. The Gas Planner uses the formula: Gas Used = SAC × Time × (Depth/10 + 1), where SAC is your surface air consumption rate in bar/min or L/min. By applying this to each segment, the planner predicts total consumption and remaining gas with high accuracy.
